Foundation stone laid for new animal hospital

THE FOUNDATION stone of the new Blue Cross Animal Hospital in Victoria, which is currently under construction, was laid on Wednesday 28th March 2001. The ceremony commemorates the rebuilding of the UK's oldest animal hospital.

The hospital, which has cost 4.4 million to rebuild, will provide free veterinary care to over 26,000 animals owned by people on low incomes, such as the elderly and disabled.

The Chairman of the appeal, Lord Sheppard, said; "Laying this foundation stone is really a momentous occasion for me and the Blue Cross. Not only is this a significant event in the history of the hospital but it also reminds us that it is this very hospital that laid the foundations for the 105 year old charity that we see today".

The charity still needs 500,000 to complete the construction of the hospital. Anyone wishing to donate money to the appeal can call 08700 727374 or send a cheque to: Victoria Public Appeal, Room No: D0004D, The Blue Cross, Shilton Road, Burford, Oxon OX18 4PF.
