Organisations
agree to Welfare Charter
AT
A meeting of the UK Greyhound Forum held on Friday November 23rd, the
UK’s foremost greyhound racing organisations agreed to support The Charter
for the Racing Greyhound, an aspirational list of best practices produced
by the animal welfare agencies that make up the Greyhound Forum.
Representatives
of the National Greyhound Racing Club (NGRC), the British Greyhound Racing
Board (BGRB), and the Promoters Association/NGRC Promoters Ltd, agreed
to endorse and use The Charter, actively encourage its endorsement and
use in all racing greyhound establishments.
The Charter is intended to be of assistance to those who breed, own and
train racing greyhounds and those who work within the industry. The welfare
agencies’ concern is that, due to the fragmented industry, there are no
central rules that apply to greyhounds that race on independent tracks,
and The Charter aims to give a set of guidelines to protect the racing
greyhound from ‘cradle to grave’.
