Call of the Wild!
The
Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) is looking for adventurous people to mush a
team of huskies on an exciting nine day Arctic Challenge in March 2002.
Participants will navigate a team of dogs through the Arctic wilderness, using
sleds, then test their skills on a snowmobile to reach the Tri-Nation border
of Sweden, Norway and Finland. There will also be an opportunity to visit the
spectacular Ice Hotel.
Caring for the huskies is an important element of the trip and participants
will be required to prepare and feed each animal up to 12,000 calories a day
comprising seal blubber and reindeer fat.
This unique expedition, which has been designed specifically for the charity,
offers a rare chance to escape from it all and go where very few people have
gone before. In addition, it offers participants the chance to put both their
physical and mental abilities to the test. With temperatures well below freezing
and long daily treks, past participants have lost a considerable amount of weight.
Anyone interested in taking part in this expedition will need to commit to raise
£3,500 for people with disabilities.
