Vets Cancel press conference
The
British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) has decided to curtail its
press and social events during its 2001 congress.
Given the current FMD crisis the BSAVA felt it would be inappropriate to hold any celebrations. They want to concentrate their energies on the educational and scientific aspects of their society. To emphasise this point Ministry of Agriculture personnel will be present to train and recruit vets for work as Temporary Veterinary Inspectors (TVIs) at the opening ceremony.
The usual press conference and photocall have been axed. In addition, the normal
informal drinks reception for the media has also been cancelled. In recognition
of the seriousness of the situation for farmers, vets and other industries the
BSAVA have no wish to have any celebrations at Congress.
Freda Scott Park, BSAVA Public Relations Officer said, "It is the wish
of BSAVA Council that this Congress is used to make a positive contribution
to the FMD crisis by actively seeking the support of vets and the MAFF team."
