Rabid
dog bites 52 in Bangkok
Dog owners in Bangkok are on the alert after a runaway dog was able
to bite 52 people in the space of three hours.
The
dog behind this mayhem was eventually captured and destroyed by the city
guards. The attacks occurred last week and the Bangkok Municipal Administration
are working to catch stray dogs who might be infected with the disease.
Anyone who owns a dog has been advised to make sure their dog has a collar
on otherwise it too may be captured.
Rabies
is endemic in the country. According to the Public Health Ministry, last
year saw rabies take the lives of fifty individuals and this year the
tally is up to twenty-nine. To try and combat the current situation the
council have said they will destroy any affected dogs, and any strays
found to be clean of the disease will be sterilised and then returned
to the street.
