Jean Kenny purchased her first Rough Collie in 1973. She attended her first show in January 1974 which was Stafford & District Canine Society Sanction Show where the judge was Barbara Butler (Upend).

In June of the same year Jean travelled to her first breed club show, judged by the late G Milden, on asking his opinion his reply was “What a nice pet”, but she was already hooked!

Along came her constant companion for the next fourteen and a half years, Barnvill Country Squire, who was constantly placed. He won two Working heats of the Pedigree Chum Veteran Stakes and as placed so often that he kept three dogs in food for two years.

In 1983 Jean accepted her first judging appointment at Derby & DCS and she was privileged to be asked by the West of England Collie Club to judge their open show in 1991 where BIS went to Ch Rifflesea Reminds Me of Blue at Leckhill. This was followed, in 1993, the honour of awarding the bitch tickets at the Collie Club of Wales and at Ayrshire Collie Club in 1994.

Unfortunately since 1996 ill health in both of Jean’s parents (who have both since died), plus the loss of promising dogs curtailed her showing.

Jean is looking forward to campaigning a new puppy in 2002 and judging Rough Collies at Paignton Championship Show.
