‘Nikie’
brings comfort to Ground Zero heroes
A seven year old Golden Retriever has been providing welcome relief to the workers at Ground Zero. Nikie is the only registered “therapy dog” allowed on the site and has been trained to ignore noise and confusion. Nikie’s work, prior to September 11th, has mostly been in hospitals. The workers, who spend 13 hours a day searching for human remains, are able to stroke him and find some release from the work they are doing.
