Belvoir Castle hosts new Country Fair weekend


A NEW Country Fair will be held on the weekend of July 20, 21 this year at Belvoir Castle, near Grantham, home of the Duke and Duchess of Rutland. Entrance on both mornings will be from 8.30am.

A full Grand Ring programme is planned for both days from 10.30am - 6.30pm and will include the band of the Royal Air Force College from nearby Cranwell, the precision of the Free Fall Parachuting Team of the Tigers and the spectacle of Jousting with the Knights of Arkley.

Other attractions including Jemima Parry-Jones flying her birds of prey, a display and Parade of Vintage Cars, the organised ‘chaos’ of Terrier racing, the fast-moving games of the Mounted Games Association of Great Britain, a gundog demonstration and lots more.

The Microlease Extra Aerobatics Team will give their thrilling display overhead during the afternoon and the Band will end the day with the Beating Retreat Ceremony.

Around the Showground will be all sorts of displays and activities - Clay Pigeon shooting competitions and tuition, Coarse Fishing and Fly casting demonstrations and tuition, casting competitions, a Gundog test, Lurchers, Terriers, Ferrets, Rare Breeds, Dog Agility, an Old Time Fairground for the children and many others. A helicopter ride is a must for those who want to see the Castle and countryside from the air.

All sorts of “Have a Go” events include shooting, fishing, target golf, catapults, airguns, laser shooting and a gundog test. Dogs will be welcome too at the Family Dog Show (Saturday only).

The Organiser, Andrew Cuthbert, says “We are thrilled to be organising a new show in the park at Belvoir with the Castle as a magnificent backdrop for the weekend. The Country Fair will be a celebration of country life and pursuits and should be a wonderful day out for all the family”.

The Duke of Rutland says “We shall be delighted to welcome everybody to all the attractions of the Country Fair at Belvoir in July, and I am sure it will be a great weekend. We plan to make contributions to several charities from the proceeds”.

Entry is £8 per adult; accompanied children aged 14 and under are free. Car parking is free, and dogs are welcome. Entry tickets can be purchased at the gates on the day. Parties in excess of 30 qualify for a 20% discount before July 1st by sending a cheque and SAE to the organiser. Cheques payable to “Belvoir Castle Country Fair” please. Vice-Presidents’ facilities available on request. The Castle and gardens will be open as usual over the weekend.
