The Wendover Story

Peter James, Chairman of The Kennel Club, accompanied by Valerie Foss presented a cheque for £1000 to Peter Mann, Chairman of the Charitable Trust Appeal Fund at Crufts on Friday 8th March after the Crufts Press Briefing.

This cheque represented the first profits from the book they co-authored, entitled ‘The Wendover Story’.

The book chronicles the life of Peter James’ mother and father L C and J James who became breeders and exhibitors of superlative Irish Setters under the prefix Wendover. Their kennels became one of the most important in the history of the breed. The book includes a chapter on W J Rasbridge and PRA using Rasbridge’s own papers, never before used and kindly lent by Mrs Rita Bryden. The chapter also highlights modern research into PRA and CLAD by Dr Jeff Sampson.

The publication has been limited to a print run of 1,000 of which there are only 100 copies left. All sales of the remaining copies will go to the Charitable Trust Health Foundation and The John MacDougall Educational Resource Centre at The Animal Health Trust. This money will be presented at a later date.
