The Pointer Club held its Championship Show at Alfreton Leisure Centre on 13th April, there was a lovely entry of 221 dogs for the judges Pippa Cook and Vicky Everington to go over.

The show was unbenched and had good size rings with plenty of room for the exhibits to move. The raffle was well supported. BIS and the Dog CC went to the Limit Dog. Medogold Midnight Romeo JW, RBIS and the Bitch CC to the Puppy Bitch Joneva Regal Archive which automatically took BPIS. The Secretary Tony Powell announced that it had been brought to the Clubs attention from several sources that one of our members had devoted 50 years to the breed and was present at the show.

Des McGarry of the famous Toberdoney affix had started in the breed in 1952 supporting both Field Trials and Showing with great success in both specialities, his lines can be found in many pedigrees. He had served the Club well over the years and had been a past Chairman. He has recently become an Honorary Life Member of the Kennel Club. The President Bernard Child made a presentation to Des on behalf of The Pointer Club with a 25 year old malt whisky in recognition of the occasion.
