Ban
welcomed by National Anti-Vivisection Society
The
National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS) today welcomed the
vote of the European Parliament in favour of a ban on the sale
of cosmetics tested on animals.
This tremendous decision also includes a ban on the import of
animal-tested cosmetics, despite the threat that the World Trade
Organisation could insist that its rules on open markets should
take precedence over moral decisions made by parliaments, about
the morality involved in manufacturing products which are imported
from abroad.
NAVS director Jan Creamer said today: "This is tremendous
news, we commend the decision of the European Parliament today,
which is set to save the lives of thousands of animals within
the EU in the future, and sets a standard for countries abroad,
who wish to sell their products here".
