South
Wales KA show move to Usk confirmed
It
can now be confirmed that the South Wales Kennel Association
will be moving their All-Breed Championship Show from the present
venue at Mount Ballan, Crick, near Chepstow to the West &
Wales Showground, Gwernesney, Usk, Monmouthshire, writes secretary
Isobell J Dyke
The move has received Kennel Club approval, and preliminary
plans have also been approved by Gwent Police and the Environment
Department of Monmouthshire County Council.
The 2003 Championship Show (10-13 July 2003) will therefore
be held on the new ground.
The West & Wales Showground lies immediately adjacent to
the A449 dual carriageway which links the M4 at Newport to the
M50 at Ross-on-Wye via the A40. Approximate distances are: M4
- 9 miles, M50 - 24 miles, Newport - 12 miles, Cardiff - 25
miles, Bristol - 30 miles.
The Showground is therefore easily accessible from the M4, The
West Midlands and West Country as well as the local towns: Usk
- 2 miles, Monmouth - 12 miles, Abergavenny - 15 miles, Chepstow
and Caldicot - 10 miles and Cwmbran - 12 miles.
The site is divided into two areas - The Showground plus two
additional adjoining fields. The Showground consists of a flat
permanent grassland area extending to approximately 52 acres
and, with the exception of a small number of mature trees, is
total unobstructed. Vehicular access to the Showground is via
a short length of unclassified road leading from the B4235 approximately
one mile from the junction with the A449. In addition the two
level permanent grassland fields extend in all to approximately
40 acres. These have an extensive frontage to and excellent
vehicular access from the B4235. The site can accommodate all
cars and caravans with ease.
All members have been informed of the move and will be regularly
kept up-to-date with the changes. Trade Stands and Judges will
also be notified in due course, with full details of all arrangements.
