The launch of the first ever Wag & Bone show took place last weekend in New Malden, outside the offices of Purina PetCare, the world's leading petcare company and the show's main sponsor.
The Wag & Bone show is a celebration of the unique relationships between people and their canine chums, from pedigrees to scruffy mutts, many of whom have heartwarming stories to tell or amazing talents to share. Taking place at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 16 August 2003, the show also marks the first time that seven of the UK's leading animal charities have come together to create a great day out for dogs and their owners, all in aid of animal welfare.
The show's launch at New Malden sees the start of the national Wag & Bone Torch Tour which will visit 12 locations across England, from Sheffield to Swindon, finishing at Windsor Castle on the 14 August.
The Tour will provide the public a chance to show their support of the seven charities by attending the walks with their own precious pooches. Among the highlights of the Wag & Bone show there is a Pup Idol Competition in which talented dogs will audition in front of a celebrity panel and a Games Zone where dogs can take part in tennis ball bobbing or the doggie 50m dash.
Live training workshops will run all day in the Teach Me Ring and when it all gets too much owners can help try and break a world record by taking part in The Big Sit.
Mary Sharrock, spokesperson for Purina PetCare said: "The Wag & Bone Show is a unique event and Purina PetCare is delighted to be involved in this massive celebration of our canine friends. So why not get your dog's tail wagging and support the UK's favourite charities at the same time and come and join us at Ascot on the 16th August."
