After
a number of years of declining championship show entries,
the Kennel Club is pleased to note that the final figures
for such entries in 2003 have turned out to be slightly
above those for 2002. The overall entry at all Group and
General Championship Shows this year has reached just under
257,000
The largest increase was at Southern Counties where an additional
1000+ dogs were entered, partly because of the new and better
show venue at Newbury. The biggest fall was at National
Gundog (1100) but this had been expected due to the temporary
move of the show venue to Scotland.
It is hoped that the slightly increased total figure for
2003 marks an end to the reductions which have taken place
over the last few years.
Societies holding shows which have attracted improved entries
are to be congratulated on their efforts, these have been
the driving force in what is hoped indicates the beginning
of a more successful period for dog shows and activities.
