Wood
Green Animal Shelters held their very first Gala Fundraising
Dinner on the 4th December which proved to be a huge success
with approximately 200 people attending.
The event which raised over £5,000 on the night was
attended by Dame Norma Major, former Pet Rescue presenter,
Wendy Turner-Webster and guest speaker Simon Weston OBE,
who certainly entertained the guests with tales of his life
including his time in the Welsh Guards and since the Falklands
War.
An auction was held during the evening. Prizes included
2 tickets to that week’s European clash between Manchester
United and Stuttgart, and a half days Land Rover experience.
The most successful prize was the sponsorship of Wood Green
resident Shire Horse Max, who fetched a staggering £750.00.
Dennis Baker OBE, Chief Executive of Wood Green Animals
Shelters said "the gala dinner was a most entertaining
evening but more importantly it raised much needed funds
to help us look after the animals in our care. As an organisation
we look forward to hosting more fundraising dinners in the
future."
The next Wood Green Animal Shelters event will be the New
Year’s Day Companion Dog Show which will begin with
entries being taken at 9.30am and judging will begin at
10.00am.
