The Cocker Spaniel Club Puppy Challenge Match held at The Yew Lodge, Kegworth on Saturday 4th January heralds the beginning of the show season for 2003 and for the club the start of a new century. Always well supported by members and friends there were 52 championship show winning puppies entered but with the rather wintry weather a few were absent but we were pleased to see that several exhibitors fromScotland made the journey.

Chairman Ed Simpson opened the proceeding and revealed the judge for the day, Mr Derek Smith.

Winner of the Crystal for Best in Match was the golden dog Helenwood Technique, bred & owned by Jacky Marris-Bray he had an excellent puppy career just being pipped for top puppy by 2 points.

Res Best in Match was Mr & Mrs Wyatt’s blue bitch Jacamus Charm Girl who went home with a beautiful cut glass decanter presented in memory of the late Joan Macmillan.

Judged the best of the first round losers was Barbara Wards red dog Wensum I'm Your Man.
As always there was generous sponsorship with excellent prizes for the winners and a goody bag for the losers.

During the afternoon the Club presented the award for top cocker of the year to Penny Lester with Sh Ch Quettadene Copper Glow and top puppy to the orange bitch Shenmore Sun Flower seen here with Andrew Jones and co-owned with Jane Simmonds.

Many stayed to enjoy the excellent buffet supper that rounded off a very enjoyable day.
