British Bulldog tops beauty poll

BEAUTY REALLY is in the eye of the beholder as Oliver the British Bulldog discovered last week. ‘Oliver’, a three-year-old bulldog weighing just over 5 stones won a beautiful bulldog contest in the USA. Oliver competed against 49 other bulldogs to win and become the official mascot of Des Moines, Iowa. British dog breeders welcomed the win yesterday, saying it was just the kind of good publicity needed for breeds perceived as ugly.
