Virgin
takes up pets scheme for US flights
VIRGIN
AIRLINES, one of the most successful private airlines in the
world, has recently been granted a licence to operate approved
routes from the USA to the UK under the Governments Pets
Travel Scheme. The approved route starts on Monday May 19th
with flights from Los Angeles to London Heathrow Monday to Friday.
Virgin will operate this route for a three month trial period,
after which, if it proves successful, they will extend their
participation in the PETS scheme to all their routes in the
US and Canada.
Virgin is also introducing an Air Miles scheme for
pets carried on their flights from May 19th as an incentive
to pet owners to take pet flights with the airline.
Well-known Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen breeder Valerie Phillips
bitch Jamars Isobel will be the first pet to use the approved
route on the day that Virgins PETS route commences.
Valerie has been an owner/breeder of PBGVs since the early 1980s.
She is American who is based in the UK, although she has been
in Oregon visiting her family since late last year.
Valerie said she is delighted that Isobel will be
the first dog to use Virgins PETS Travel Scheme route.
She is co-author of the book The Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen
- a definitive study.
Jamars Isobel is from British breeding out of Jamars Gregos
of Ilsham (owned by John and Adele Walton-Haddon) and Much Ado
About Jamar. She has been shown in the US on several occasions
and has won best bitch at two AKC shows.
