Crufts qualifications for Irish exhibitors

Following consultation with the Irish Kennel Club it has been agreed that the present Green Star qualifier will remain until and including Crufts 2007.

For Crufts 2008, seven IKC Group Championship Shows will become qualifying shows from which the following will qualify:- Winners of Junior (Dog) and Junior (Bitch) classes plus Best Dog and Best Bitch from each KC recognised breed.

Therefore dogs will qualify at these shows in 2007 for Crufts 2008.

In May of this year the IKC received a letter from the Kennel Club telling them that with effect from May 2004 five point Green Stars won at shows in Eire would not be accepted as a qualification for Crufts in 2005.

Each year around 250 dogs qualify for Crufts via the five point system, the threshold for which is set each year based the numerical success of breed entry figures from the previous year.

In 2003 just under Irish owned dogs were entered at Crufts. The new and revised qualifier will replace the original idea of nominating one show per year to act as a qualifier which was in-line with Kennel Club policy on other overseas FCI countries.
