Charities benefit from vets’ cycle event

A team of enthusiastic veterinary surgeons rallied together to support Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and Macmillan Cancer Relief at LEO Animal Health’s sixth coast-to-coast ride. The £4,000 in sponsorship, which was raised from the event, has been shared equally between these two charities. A 170 mile route over some of the most diverse countryside in Northern England was successfully completed in varied weather conditions. Starting at Workington, the group of 17 participants completed their ride in Newcastle at the mouth of the Tyne: spectacular scenery along the route included the Lake District National Park, the Scottish borders and Kielder forest.

The event commenced as a number of participants ceremoniously dipped their wheels into the Irish Sea and was concluded by repeating the process in the North Sea. An unscheduled dip, however, came when three riders were unable to stay in the saddle negotiating a treacherous ford - much to the amusement of their colleagues!
