The Executive Council of the Scottish Kennel Club met last week when one of the topics for discussion was the position of the Trustees. Since the age retiral of Mr Aitken Johnston and the resignation of Mrs Eleanor Bothwell, the number of Trustees fell short of the minimum requirement.

The position of Robert Crawford was discussed and thereafter Mr Crawford submitted his resignation.

The Council then appointed three new Trustees, Mr Tom Bowman, a retired banker and past member of the Executive Council, Mr Ian Millar, a consultant in adoption and fostering and a long standing member of Scottish Kennel Club and Miss Cristabel Holmes a local businesswoman and present Vice Convenor of Scottish Kennel Club, they together with Mrs Anne Macdonald bring the number of Trustees back to four.

CHANGE OF DATE FOR SGM

It was also decided at the Council meeting that the forthcoming SGM called to discuss Constitutional amendments should be held at the same venue on Sunday 16th January 2005 at 2.00pm instead of the Thursday evening before. It was felt by Council that the evening meeting may not allow sufficient time to properly discuss some of the proposed amendments and that moving to the Sunday afternoon would facilitate this.

MEETING WITH KENNEL CLUB

The convener, Mrs Anne Macdonald, also gave the Council a report on the recent meeting which she and Mr Kousourou, the Secretary General, had attended at the Kennel Club Offices in London where they met with KC Chairman Mr Ronnie Irving, Secretary Caroline Kisko and Kathryn Symns.

This had been a very productive meeting with both the Kennel Club and the Scottish Kennel Club reaffirming their support for each other. A number of topics had been discussed such as New Legislation, Disciplinary matters, the Young Kennel Club, Education and Training, Strategic Objectives and IT links all of which will involve even closer co-operation.

SECRETARY GENERAL’S LAST MEETING

It was noted that this was Mr Kousourou’s last meeting as Secretary General and Mrs Macdonald thanked him for his efforts over the past year and for stepping in to a difficult position when this had been required. In response Mr Kousourou thanked the Council for the support received and urged the Council to continue to give the new Secretary General, Mrs Myra Orr, and indeed all the staff, their full support.

Mr Kousourou will still remain as a member of the Executive Council.
