David
Jason, one of Britains best-loved actors, has pledged
his support to the work of the Retired Greyhound Trust,
handing them a cheque for £250.
During a break in filming for the next series of Yorkshire
Televisions, A Touch of Frost, at the
Owlerton Stadium, Sheffield, the star handed over the money
to Director of Racing, Dave Baldwin. The donation will go
to the Sheffield branch of the Trust and will be used to
help find homes for ex-racing greyhounds and look after
dogs currently in the Trusts care.
Dave Baldwin said "Thanks to David Jason and Yorkshire
Television for this generous donation which will be put
to good use at a grass roots level and benefit greyhounds
that have actually raced here. We are grateful for their
support in helping to raise awareness of the need to find
homes for these lovely dogs."
The star is one of a growing number of celebrity supporters
of the Trusts work. Other known advocates include
Jilly Cooper, Vinnie Jones and Philippa Forrester.
In fact, more and more famous faces are being pictured in
the press with a greyhound by their side. It was recently
revealed that Jade Jagger and actress, Jaye Griffiths, own
pet greyhounds. Celebrities, like other greyhound owners,
have probably been won over by their greyhounds docile
and gentle nature. Despite popular misconceptions, greyhounds
take no more effort to look after than the average breed
of dog, are friendly, loving animals and are happy with
two 20-minute walks each day.
