signed up and raring to go: Sponsored dogs Archie with Dingle
Jeffreys, Tango
with Jo Westerman and Otto with Kishem Dunn outside St Martha-on-the-Hill
You have to walk, four legs or two, if you want to see the
Church of St Martha-on-the-Hill outside Guildford. There
are no roads, only footpaths.
So the "Best Paw Forward" Sponsored Walk is a
perfect way to combine fundraising towards the £550,000
appeal target for little pilgrim church with enjoyment of
the beautiful Surrey Hills countryside with your dog.
l Be a pilgrim for the day.
l Sponsor your dog
l Ring the church bell
The Sponsored Walk will take place on Saturday April 24.
It is open to organisations, clubs, individuals, families,
children and especially dogs! There will be a choice
of routes of varying lengths from three and 10 miles, to
suit age and stamina and there is lots of free parking.
The walkers will be following a well worn trail that goes
back over a thousand years. From medieval times to the present
day St Marthas has offered a spiritual pit-stop for
pilgrims as they slogged on foot between Winchester
and Canterbury and it is so popular with Guildford walkers
that it was voted the Peoples Favourite Building in
the 2003 Guildford Borough Council Heritage Awards.
Every child, 10 years old and under, who takes part in the
walk will be able to ring the ancient church bell and will
be given a certificate. Registration: adults £2, children
under 16yrs £1, DOGS FREE.
