
One
of the paintings to be offered at auction in March 2004
in San Francisco by Bonham's & Butterfields is this
large oil on canvas of two Toy Spaniels. Attributed to Richard
Ansdell RA (1815-1885), it measures 28" x 36"
(71 x 91.5cm) and will carry a pre-sale estimate of £18.000-£25,000
Bonham's
will team up with Butterfields, the principal firm of fine
art auctioneers on the West Coast of America, is to host
the annual sale of Dogs in Art in 2004.
The themed sale, which has been a feature of the auction
calendar for more than 20 years (firstly in London then
latterly in New York), will take place for the first time
in San Francisco on Tuesday, 30 March 2004.
Highlights from the sale will be on view at Bonham's in
Knightsbridge on 5 and 6 January before being transferred
to Bonham's & Butterfields in San Francisco where around
250 lots will be on display from 26 to 29 March.
In August of 2002, Butterfields was acquired by Bonham's
now trade as Bonham's & Butterfields. Bonham's is the
world's oldest and largest auctioneers of fine art and antiques
remaining in British ownership.
