Staffords make breed history

STAFFORDSHIRE BULL Terrier history was made recently, when two Stafford bitches from the same kennel became Champions in the same week.

Brian McComiskie and Anne Dick’s homebred girls, Bourtie Originario JW and Bourtie Steal the Limelight JW, both gained their all important third tickets at  South Wales KA and Paignton respectively, making what we believe is breed history, particularly in such a numerically strong breed.

Bourtie Originario, pet name Rheo, was born on Valentine’s day 2001 (Bourtie True Survivor x Grooverider Cast No Shadow). Her wins to date are: CC - Scottish Kennel Club 17th May 2003 - Judge: Mr Pete Naylor; CC - Richmond 6th September 2003 - Judge: Mr Tom Hehir; CC - South Wales 8 July 2004 - Judge: Mr Roger Pugh; RCC - Scottish Kennel Club 18 May 2002 - Judge: Mrs Carol Ridley and RCC - East Midlands SBT Club 2 November 2003 - Judge: Mr Abe Harkness.

Bourtie Steal the Limelight, otherwise known as Fran, is a year younger and is a black brindle (Sparstaff Son Xorigeur (many thanks to Rob & Yvonne Drummond) x Bourtie Dark Indulgence). Like Rheo, Fran also boasts an impressive CV: CC & BOB - Scottish Kennel Club 16 May 2004 - Judge: Mr Frank McCann; CC - Bath 28 May 2004 - Judge: Mrs Mary Coble; CC & BOB - Paignton 16 July 2004 - Judge: Mr Bob Blackley and RCC & BPIB - Crufts 2004 - Judge: Mr Alan Hedges. The kennel also boasts the well known and much admired Bourtie Son of A Gun, who took a hotly contested Res CC at Blackpool under John Finney, and shown by Audrey Hubery

The Bourtie affix eminates from the late Dr Annie Anderson, who was the first person to introduce Staffords to the North of Scotland.  Dod Reid (Anne’s grandfather) showed the dogs for Dr Anderson for a number of years, before Anne took over at the tender age of five years old, under his watchful eye.

After the death of the late Dr Anderson, Anne Dick continued with the Bourtie affix, campaigning Bourtie Cream of the Barley RCC, Ch Bourtie Heat Seeker, Ch Ramblix Roberto, and Bourtie Highland Malt 1CC.

In 1998 Brian McComiskie joined Anne Dick and brought along Bourtie True Survivor and Grooverider Cast No Shadow.

Grooverider Cast No Shadow produced Ch Bourtie Originario JW, Bourtie Dark Indulgence and Bourtie Son of a Gun JW (RCC - Blackpool 2004). Bourtie Dark Indulgence produced Ch Bourtie Steal the Limelight JW.
