The Blackpool Show - Brace yourself!

The Blackpool committee, still looking remarkably smart
and fresh after three days at the end of the 2003 show

There will be lots of fresh air and fun on the Fylde coast next weekend as the dog show summer tour reaches Blackpool.

With over 10,000 dogs entered yet again, it augurs well for a great weekend for all concerned. The show traditionally seems to attract a good gate, which not only helps the atmosphere but also benefits the great range of trade stands in attendance.

There are some changes this year as Blackpool stalwart Jack Bennett hands over the secretarial reins to Mr Steve Hall, so good luck to Steve and the committee. There is a new look also to the layout as the show has moved around within the ground; however, reference to the full showground map within this feature will give readers and exhibitors a clear idea of the new layout. The society has invested in the construction of an inner ring road around the site which will assist in easy arrivals and departures.

Our look back in the archives has revealed some interesting reflections on the past featuring names such as Ben Raven, Jean Hopwood, Dennis Marples and Lillian Smith.

The older ones amongst us will remember the Oval and the Stanley Park clock tower!

Following on from Blackpool we will have the hectic run of summer shows including Windsor, South Wales, Paignton, Peterborough, and Leeds. Lets hope for fine weather and a great run of top British Championship dog shows.
