New York, NY – The 11th annual American Kennel Club (AKC) Pointing Breed Gun Dog Championships were held at the Branched Oak Field Trial Area in Raymond, NE, from April 26 through May 5, 2004.

Outdoor and sporting dog enthusiasts from across the country convene annually for this prestigious event that determines the top pointing breed gun dogs. The 2004 event --hosted by the Nebraska Field Trial Clubs Association and AKC Gun Dog Championship Association -- was attended by over 300 sportsmen and women. All participants competed on horseback on a course of over 1,300 acres of rugged Nebraska terrain.

THE RETRIEVING CHAMPIONSHIP:

The Retrieving Stake, which ran from April 26 - 30, was a 30-minute single course, with finds and retrieves required. The top 20 dogs were called back for a second series consisting of a 45-minute single course with a required retrieve. Judges Tim Schillereff, of Portland, OR and Francis Clasen of Garden Plains, KS spent five days in the saddle to select the top dogs from across the country. In the end, Field Champion (FC) Jacks To Win, a German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) owned by John Swenson of Bardstown, KY and handled by Bryan Long of Maryville, MO took the top honors, with an excellent performance.
