Colin Powell has been injured during the theft of his daughter’s car from his forecourt writes Mike Homan.
Apparently, Colin was alerted by the sound of a car door slamming, rushing from his house, he spotted a man in the driving seat with the engine running. Colin tried unsuccessfully to stop the car moving away - unfortunately, he was thrown on to the bonnet as the car sped away. He clung to a window screen wiper with one hand, the other gripping a wheel arch.
Fifty to sixty yards further along the road the car braked heavily and Colin catapulted into the air and was struck by the car as he landed in the gutter. Colin underwent surgery the following day for a number of injuries. The police are treating the incident as an attempted murder investigation.
Colin Powell of Wednesbury (W. Midlands) is well known to terrier enthusiasts. On the day of his operation (10th October) he was to have judged a number of terriers and BIS at the London & Home Counties Terrier Club open show. Stuart Yearley arrived at the show to exhibit his Bedlington Terriers, however, at very short notice the committee invited him to replace Colin Powell. Stuart duly obliged, withdrew his entries and commenced a busy day judging. The London & Home Counties Terrier Club wish Colin Powell a speedy recovery and hope he will be available to judge for them next year.
