Mrs May Dadd
It was with great sadness that I heard of the death of May Dadd in Hospital, after a short illness, on 22nd August. She and her husband were very active in Golden Retrievers in the late 50s to the 70s with Goldens under the Danespark Affix - but the dogs were all registered in their son's name.
I well remember the many happy times with them at shows when they were campaigning their dogs, in particular Sh.Ch.Danespark Angela, born in the late 50s, and was a multiple cc winner, one of which was won at Crufts. In the 60s they made up the litter brother and sister, Sh.Ch.Danespark Emile and Sh. Ch. Danespark Estelle, and Mr Carney of the Fionafield Affix had from them a bitch which he made up - Sh. Ch. Danespark Dorinda of Fionafield. They also campaigned an Arlesford bitch from Lottie Pilkington, which was a cc winner, and from Enid Minter a dog called Stenbury Waternewton.
May was the one who handled the dogs, which were always beautifully presented, and she judged several Championship shows, including one for the Northern Golden Retriever Club, of which she, her husband and son were all members, and Mr Dadd was on the committee of that Club.
After her husband's death May moved to a bungalow in Guisborough where she lived alone until her illness. Latterly she was without a dog, but still in her 90s she retained her interest in the breed. I am sure she will be very much missed but all who knew her, and our condolences go to her daughter.
