Pedro Oliveira da Silva
At Sintra’s dog shows, I had the pleasure of meeting my old friend, Pedro Oliveira da Silva, Franco’s Valley affix, one of the most well known and succesful breeders.
As most people know he has been a great winner for many years all over the world with his Golden and Labrador Retrievers. In Sintra he showed seven retrievers and and his daughter Teresa (13 years old) was showing and handling her own beagles.
All his stock, retrievers and beagles originate from top kennels in U.K .
In both shows his retrievers and Teresa´s beagles won the CCs and in the international show on Sunday they won the gundog and hound group.
The winner of the gundog group was the English import Abbeystead Tangle bred by Mrs.Lynn Minchella, an outstanding black male who not only did well in England, including Crufts and the Labrador Club centenary show, but also in different countries in Europe, and in the last four months with his new owner Pedro, has won one BIS , one RBIS , two first at groups and one second being now placed as best gundog and number six on the all breeds ranking .
The young Golden Retriever, 17 months, Mitcharron Love Bug of Francos Valley, bred by Mrs. Patricia Parry from Wales, which was this year second in its class at Crufts under Mrs.Valerie Foss, was the CC winner at these shows.
His daughter’s beagles, bred from Dialynne, Tragband and Norcis imports, Ch .Grand Slam of Franco´s Valley JW, was not only the group winner but gained the 2004 European title. This dog is now number one all breeds in Portugal. Pedro now has 116 champions under his affix in many places throughout the world.
Unfortunately we did not have the opportunity to visit on Monday 26th July ‘Pedro’s Farm’ located in a magnificent spot between Estoril and Sintra, where he lives with his family and all his dogs, referred by most of the people who visited them as one of the best all over the world, including some judges who call it the ‘doggies’ paradise’!
OUR DOGS have promised to visit him next summer at Sintra 2005.
