Former secretary faces prison

ON wednesday September 1st, the former Secretary of the Pointer Club Mr Anthony Bryan Powell (Hayapark), 57, of Knaresborough, North Yorkshire appeared at York Crown Court facing theft charges.

He pleaded guilty to one charge of theft and four charges of false accounting and was warned by Judge Paul Hoffman that he may well face prison. He was granted bail. The case was adjourned for four weeks to allow the preparation of pre-sentence reports.

He had been originally due to appear at York Crown Court in June after being arrested on April 8th charged with theft offences. The offences took placed between 1st December 1990 and 31st. January 2004. These totalled £18,145.98p.

he asked for a further nine counts to be ‘taken into consideration.’ His wife, who was the club treasurer, resigned before the club’s AGM in may of this year.
