The American Kennel Club (AKC), through its affiliate organization AKC Companion Animal Recovery (AKC/CAR), continues to work closely with The Florida Association of Kennel Clubs (FAKC), to make supplies and offer other assistance to the areas affected by Hurricanes Charley and Frances. With Hurricane Ivan expected to hit the Florida Panhandle sometime Thursday, assistance continues to be urgently needed.

Most recently, the AKC sent crates to Vero Beach Humane Society, which was hard hit by Hurricane Frances.

“In one of the most dangerous hurricane seasons in recent memory, the AKC remains committed to offering assistance to the dogs affected by these storms,” said Dennis B. Sprung, AKC president and CEO. “The Florida Association of Kennel Clubs continues to be instrumental in mobilizing supplies to the areas of Florida with the greatest needs.”

To date, significant donations of water, microchips, scanners, crates, a water purifier, space blankets, leashes, collars, fencing, batteries, flashlights and film have been made by AKC and AKC/CAR to various locations in the Florida area.
