Schmeichel to lead out the Manchester Team

In similar fashion to that famous balmy evening back in 1999, camera bulbs will be flashing the crowd will cheering and once again Schmeichel will be leading out the Manchester side. On this occasion, however, Schmeichel accompanied by Sam Aston (Coronation Street’s Chesney) will be launching the Manchester Mutts Dog Show.

There will be no multi-million pound players on show, instead a range of Manchester’s most faithful companions. Unlike Crufts, the competition is for all those much loved and loyal four legged family friends. Manchester’s Printworks is getting ready to host a ball of barking in the city’s first Mutts show on 30th April from 11am to 3pm.

To mark National Pet Week (30 April – 8 May 2005) Manchester’s Printworks entertainment centre will be welcoming hundreds of the region’s Rovers into the Pumpyard where a packed day of fun, competitions and displays will be taking place. Dogs of any size and shape can enter and all will be asked to contribute a minimum £1 entry fee, which will be donated to Manchester Dog’s Home.

Prize winning pooches will be awarded rosettes and dog coats, with the Manchester Mutt of the Year cup being presented to the dog that the judges feel is Best in Show. While it might be the European Cup at stake, the lucky winners will run out with prizes kindly donated to the competition by local Pet Shops Planet Pet and French Trading.

Events on the day will range from demonstrations by the highly trained Greater Manchester Police dog handling unit to relaxation classes for stressed out city dogs.

The Pumpyard in The Printworks will be transformed into a canine showground, complete with fencing and Astroturf (no trees). Any dog-caught short during the day will also be able to retreat to the privacy of the specially installed Canine Can.

A judging panel to include celebrity dog lovers and Sam Aston plus Schmichael, will decide the winners of individual classes as well as the final Best In Show.
