Wolves terrorise Ukraine

A PACK of wolves attacked more than a dozen people last week in eastern Ukraine, and one of the animals was found to have rabies.

The attacks on 14 people took place from Thursday through to Saturday in villages in the Zaporizhia region, a statement from the Emergency Situations Ministry said.

A car struck and killed one of the wolves, and vets that examined the animal determined it had rabies, according to the Ministry. All of those attacked, including a 60-year-old woman who was seriously injured, have been given rabies vaccines.

The ministry ordered local hunters, police and special emergency teams to track down and kill the pack, as well as any domestic animals and pets bitten by the wolves.

Ukrainian health authorities record dozens of cases of rabies every year.
