Celebrity pet calendar raises funds for charity

CELEBRITIES, SPORTS stars and luvvies came together with their best friends to raise money for the PDSA, one of the UK’s best known animal charities. But the best friends were no transient, kiss-and-tell fly by nights – they were the celebs' own pets.

Doc Martin star Martin Clunes cuddled his cocker spaniels Mary Elizabeth and Tina Audrey (neither of whom behave badly), while former All Saint Nicole Appleton steeled her nerves and posed angelically with two Chihuahuas, Godzilla and Michael Jackson, two great Danes Dudley and Honey, and her English mastiff, Bear.

The calendar, which went on sale last weekend, will raise money for the veterinary charity’s forty-two PetAid hospitals.

Lord Lichfield, who took the pictures, said he was "thrilled" to be working on the calendar.
"I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the celebrities and their pets. My own dog is a very important part of my life and I am pleased to help raise funds for PDSA so that it can continue to provide free veterinary care for sick and injured pets."

PDSA spokeswoman Liza Randall said: "This calendar is a great example of the special bond between people and their pets. It's clear just how much the celebrities value their pets' companionship. They were charming throughout the shoot - even though the spotlight was clearly on their furry friends."

Priced just £4.99, the 2006 PDSA Pet Pawtraits calendar is available from all PDSA shops, online at or by telephoning 0800 917 2509
