A St Bernard dog has linked his owner to a murder.

Simon Wiseman stabbed Derek Buchanan in a street confrontation because he suspected he was having an affair with his ex-girlfriend. Many witnesses could not identify the killer because his back was towards them - but recognised his dog. The incident was witnessed by several residents who linked the St Bernard to the killer.

Police also found the animal's paw prints in pools of blood on the ground. Blood on the dog's paws was later analysed and found to be the victim's.

Wiseman was told he would have to serve 14 years before he could apply for parole after being convicted of murder.
