Pastures new for Darlington 2005!

Darlington Dog Show Society is set to make an historic change to the Championship Dog Show in September 2005. The local Borough Council is in the process of completely refurbishing the traditional venue of South Park rendering the site unavailable to the Society. This has necessitated a move from Darlington to a new venue.

The new location will be at Newby Hall, near Ripon, North Yorkshire which is approximately 35 miles south of Darlington by road. The site is easily accessible from all directions being only 2 miles from the A1 (M) trunk road, Junctions 48 and 49 just north of Wetherby.

Newby Hall is a grand house, which was built in the 17th Century on a site dating back from the early 13th century. Mr Richard Compton and his family have owned it over the generations. It is set in gardens of 25 acres and is open to the public. There are 300 acres of parkland, which is grazed mainly by sheep. The hall has offered the society up to 61 acres of their land for the forthcoming championship show.

It is a very large flat green field site which will easily accommodate the Show with the opportunity to enhance the already first class layout giving exhibitors every amenity to enjoy their day at Darlington.

It has the added facility of being able to provide a splendid setting for caravans which hopefully will encourage more exhibitors to attend the inaugural event.

Previously there have been many events including Rallies and Craft Fairs held on the site so Newby Hall is no stranger to public events. This year they offer a variety of interesting ‘days out’ to the public.

The staff at the new location is offering their full co-operation to the Society.

This is an exciting new venture for both parties and it will be the first time that Newby Hall has hosted a prestigious championship dog show. The society is looking forward to meeting old friends and making many new ones in September.

Further announcements will be made in due course and any enquiries can be directed to Miss Sarah D Allsopp (Vice Chairman/Publicity Officer) 0191 4162606 or Mrs Freda N.Marshall (Secretary)
