GREYHOUND COMPASSION, a small registered charity based in Devon is holding its annual Fun Dog Show this Sunday, July 24th.
This is the biggest and most important event in the charity’s fund raising calendar and is vital to their rehoming project as the proceeds help to cover the expenses of keeping greyhounds in kennels until suitable homes can be found.
Co-ordinator Sally Slater says: "We are struggling badly this year as, so far, we have only rehomed two greyhounds, when normally by this time of the year, we would have rehomed 15 or 16. While the dogs in kennels are happy, safe and well cared for, they need homes of their own and also are taking vital places of safety needed for other, less fortunate greyhounds, some of whose lives are actually at risk.
"Among the dogs waiting for a home is Polly. She is a very pretty girl, white with a black ear, but a birth defect has meant that she has had to lose one of her front legs. Please don’t think that this incapacitates her in any way – she is as lively as she was with four legs and, at three years old, has a long, and hopefully happy life ahead of her."
By coming along and supporting the Fun Dog Show on 24th July, dog lovers will be helping to provide vital funds which will enable Greyhound Compassion to continue its rescue work. The venue is King George V Playing Fields, off the Topsham Road (Countess Wear Road side), open at 12.00 noon and judging starts at 1.00 pm. All types of dogs are welcome. There will be stalls including doggie goods, gift, bric-a-brac, cakes and produce, a Grand Draw, Tombola and refreshments are available.
Sally adds: "There will be a parade of rehomed greyhounds during the afternoon and it will be great to see greyhounds we have rehomed looking so well and happy. Information about the greyhounds in kennels waiting for a home will also be available. So come along for a good day out and enjoy all the lovely dogs who come along each year and help to make the day such a success. Plenty of shade available if hot!!"
