Suspected dog fighting ring uncovered

POLICE SEARCHING for stolen mobile phones have stumbled upon a suspected illegal dog-fighting ring in the West Midlands.

At one address one animal was found dead and six other dogs – alleged to be Pit Bull Terriers - were discovered malnourished. Officers also recovered 100 mobile phones, believed to be stolen.

West Midlands Police and Trading Standards officers from Sandwell Council carried out the raids at several premises in Sandwell last week. Eight people were arrested and bailed in connection with the mobile phones.

Five people were held on suspicion of handling stolen goods, two for counterfeit trademark offences and one for possessing an offensive weapon and a public order offence.

RSPCA officers were called to the scene to take charge of the dogs and an investigation has been launched into the possible dog-fighting ring.
