Janet Street-Porter, journalist, broadcaster and walking enthusiast is encouraging everyone to take part in a special one day walking event - The Big Walk Across England? the Macmillan Way Challenge on Sunday 26 June 2005. Anyone can take part, simply by choosing a section of the Macmillan Way footpath to hike, walk or ramble, for as many miles as possible. Every mile walked will help Macmillan Cancer Relief raise money for their vital cancer care services.
The Macmillan Way is a fully marked, 290 mile, coast-to-coast path from Boston in Lincolnshire to Abbotsbury in Dorset. It covers some of theUK's most outstanding scenery. The path opened in April 1996 and has raised over £250,000 to date for Macmillan through sponsorship of walkers and sale of publications with guides to the route, maps, illustrations and details of accommodation, transport and meal facilities along the Macmillan Way.
Janet Street-Porter says, "I am delighted to be supporting this fantastic event that allows you to experience the beautiful English countryside and do something very worthwhile for people living with cancer.
It's easy to take part whether alone or on an organized walk with family or friends. Take your dog and get sponsored for every milecompleted. I urge you all to get out in the fresh air and walk as many miles as you can to help Macmillan. It would be incredible if we cover all 290 miles of the Macmillan Way, coast to coast, covered by everyone taking part."
