Pedigree® is set to enter the record books for the very first time after creating the world’s longest dog lead at this year’s Crufts.
The lead measures an impressive 686 metres in length – that’s almost seven times the height of Big Ben! One lucky dog owner will soon have the chance to own the record breaking lead as it goes up for auction on the Pedigree website, with all proceeds going to charity.
Members of the public were able to take part in the world record attempt by each adding a section of leather dog lead as they visited the Pedigree stand at this year’s Crufts. Made up of over 7,000 individual sections of leather, the lead was created by a team of experts who worked around the clock at the four-day event, riveting the individual pieces together. Measured by an independent adjudicator, the final length has now been submitted for recognition as an official world record.
After receiving a number of requests from members of the public at Crufts, Pedigree has decided to hold the auction on its website in order to raise lots of money for charity and give owners the chance to take home the historic lead. Pedigree will donate the proceeds from the auction to the following charities: Battersea Dogs Home, Birmingham Dogs Home, Manchester Dogs Home and the SSPCA. Bidding will commence mid-May on the Pedigree website, www.pedigree.com/uk, with the lead going to the highest bidder as it stands on 1 August.
Sally Shaw, spokesperson for Pedigree comments: ‘Members of the public were very excited at the prospect of being able to take part in a world record attempt. We are thrilled to respond to consumers’ wishes by auctioning the dog lead, benefiting worthy causes in the process.’
Pedigree. It’s a dog thing.
