Zak, a three-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, has won £50 in a social club draw. The dog visited the Bedside Welfare Social Centre in Blyth, Northumberland with his owner William Wilson so often that he was made an independent member.

Though some members complained about the win on the grounds that it contravenes club rules, the club felt there was no problem with Zak’s win and paid out his winnings from the weekly club draw as they would do to any other member. Mr Wilson plans to spend the winnings solely on Zak and will continue to pay his future 50p annual membership fees.
