Newly crowned Claire Evans puts on her walking shoes for Dogs Trust
As a keen cross country runner, the new Miss Wales, Claire Evans, is more accustomed to running through the lovely Margam Country Park than walking. However, on Sunday 25th September, Claire will join hundreds of animal lovers in a bid to set a record for the ‘Biggest Dog Walk in Wales’ and raise vital funds for the Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre Bridgend.
22 year-old Claire was crowned Miss Wales in a glittering ceremony sponsored by Cellite Clinic on Friday 22nd July when she was chosen from 30 finalists. As the new Miss Wales, Claire can look forward to an exciting year ahead and as a keen animal welfare supporter she is delighted to be leading Wales’ Biggest Dog Walk in aid of Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity. Dogs Trust cares for, and rehomes over 12,000 stray and abandoned dogs each year through its network of 15 Rehoming Centres nationwide.
The 5k walk will take place in the beautiful surroundings of Margam Country Park in Port Talbot on Sunday 25th September. The walk will be officially started by Miss Wales at 11am. There is still plenty of time to get sponsored, or just come along on the day and cheer on the hundreds of people and pooches walking for Dogs Trust. Donations will be accepted on the day.
The event promises to be a fantastic day out for all the family. The beautiful route is set in stunning scenery with deer and farm animals grazing in the picturesque grounds. There is a nearby café open for refreshments.
Beverley Price, Dogs Trust Bridgend Manager, says,
“We are delighted Claire will be joining this special event and want as many people and dogs to come along and join in the fun. We’ll have lots of gorgeous dogs on the walk too, and hope to make this the biggest sponsored walk Wales has ever seen, so whether you’re being sponsored or just coming along for fun, make sure you are a part of it!”
Claire Evans, the new Miss Wales 2005, says:
“I am looking forward to a great day, and more importantly, helping to raise much-needed funds for the hundreds of abandoned and unwanted dogs that we see in Wales every year. As a real animal lover, I’m delighted that as part of my year as Miss Wales I can do something to help.”
The walk is being held in aid of Dogs Trust Bridgend Rehoming Centre and will help raise vital funds to care for hundreds of dogs looked after in the centre every year. If you are interested in taking part or would like a sponsorship form please contact Dogs Trust Bridgend on 01656 725219.
