Volunteers wanted for Arctic adventure

Volunteers are wanted to take part in a sponsored dog sledging trip through the Arctic wilderness.

The Friends of the Cambridge-based Scott Polar Research Institute need people for the Great Sponsored Arctic Dog Sledge in Norway next spring.

This trip involves sledging more 155 miles (250 km) from 12 to 18 March 2006, beginning near Alta, 75 miles (120 km) north of the Arctic Circle. Volunteers will need to raise around £3,000 in sponsorship to take part.

The funds will help the Friends to support the work of the Scott Polar Research Institute, part of the University of Cambridge, which was founded in 1920 as the national memorial to Captain Scott and the Polar exploration party.

It has been an international centre for polar explorers, scholars and enthusiasts ever since. The trip is being arranged by Across the Divide expeditions.
