PETER SUMMERS’ untimely death occurred on July 27 in the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, following a relatively short illness writes Rita Morgan.
We first met Peter and Betty when judging at Beckenham CS where they had been loyal committee members for many years as well as members of Edenbridge DTC.
Boxers were Peter’s passion and he usually had two, mainly as pets; his main interests in the world of dogs also included stewarding and organisation.
When Peter and his wife retired they wanted to move from Bromley and live in Devon where Peter had many family members. Fortunately a house was found in Down St Mary, where he was able to enjoy his garden and walking the dogs.
Peter joined the Devon County Show committee in 1997 and became our very hard working Chief Steward.
As most people in the West country will know, Peter was involved in organisation at other events and stewarding at numerous local shows.
My husband proposed Peter for Paignton Championship show committee where he became a Group Steward. Recently he had also joined the committee of Newton Abbot CS.
Peter will be greatly missed at so many shows in Devon and Cornwall for all his help in stewarding.
Devon County stewards will miss him going around with his bag of sweets to make sure everyone had a smile on their faces.
Sincere sympathies go to his wife Betty and relatives.
A celebration of Peter’s life will be held on Monday August 7 at 2.30pm at Down St Mary Church.
