The Kennel Club of Jersey has just held its Summer Championship Show at the Royal Jersey Showground writes Ro Cox. The show can be counted yet another success, and only adding to its popularity of course is the bonus of Crufts qualification that comes with the major wins.

Each group winner is awarded a Challenge Certificate and it is also a qualifier for Crufts with the Group 2 getting the Reserve Challenge Certificate. When an exhibit has won three Challenge Certificates and it has been validated by the KCJ Committee, the exhibit will be awarded the status of Jersey Champion and will be allowed to put Jsy CH in front of its name. The Best Puppy & Best Junior in Groups also qualify for Crufts.

Three judges came over, Mrs Ann Macdonald judged the Hound and Gundogs; Mr Thomas Evans presided over the Terrier and Toy Groups and Mrs Sue Searle judged the Pastoral, Working and Utility.

BOBs in the Hound Group were Stuart and Pamela Mottershaw’s Whippet, Eeri Stormy Weather at Elangeni; Wendy Marshall’s Mini Wire Haired Dachshund Bouvee Blitz; Annabelle Le Page’s Miniature Long Haired Dachshund, Thelepees Madam Hazel Lycra; Lisa Goodall’s Wire Haired Dachshund, Gayteckles Seaexpectation at Renlott; Annabelle Le Page and Elisha Wilson’s Long Haired Dachshund, Neropa Jetblack Juite; Stuart and Pamela Mottershaw's Afghan Hound, Lux/Germ/Int Ch Jacosta Black in a Flash (IMP); Violet Gorin’s Borzoi, Zovertoff Zoran; Carole and John Le Brun's Rhodesian Ridgeback, Eilack Gyasi; Sarah Woodhouse’s Beagle, Timamso Maestro of Birybarn; Stuart and Pamela Mottershaw’s Glenoak Irfan at Elangeni and Wendy Marshall’s Smooth Haired Dachshund, Lady Night Warrior.

Winning the CC was the Afghan Hound handled by Marie Claire Hannigan with the Reserve CC going to the Wire Haired Dachshund. Group 3 was the Whippet and Group 4 went to Rhodesian Ridgeback. Stuart and Pamela Mottershaw’s Whippet, Eeri Love Me Do at Elangeni was Best Puppy, Junior and Novice in Group and Reserve Best Puppy was Annabelle Le Page and Elisha Wilson’s Long Haired Dachshund, Neropa Jetblack Juite. Sarah and Ryan Woodhouse’s Beagle, Timamso Amour was Best Yearling in Group whilst Best Veteran went to Annabelle Le Page’s Miniature Long Haired Dachshund, Thelepees Madam Hazel Lycra and Best Brace went to Stuart and Pamela Mottershaw’s Whippets.

The Cocker Spaniels started the Gundog Group with Best of Breed going to Lynn Ozanne’s Cocker Spaniel, Lochranaza Nostalgia at Lyntonridge. Other Bests of Breed were Christianne Creber's Weimaraner, Oakmoreton Ptarmigan; Sandra and David Bouchere’s Golden Retriever, Tenfield Raceway; Lynn Ozanne’s English Springer Spaniel, Trimere True Style at Lyntonridge; Pam Smith’s Welsh Springer Spaniel, Tachwedd Tegan; White’s Labrador Retriever, Lembas Moonlight Sonata; David and Carol Turner’s English Pointer, Clamerkin Come Closer to Chakona; Debbie Houghton and Enid Le Gresley’s American Cocker Spaniel, Fielgar Majestic Quest and Ro and Nigel Cox’s Irish Setter, Tiroen Taylormade.

The CC went to the Weimaraner with the Reserve CC going to the English Springer Spaniel. Group 3 was the Irish Setter and Group 4 was the Labrador Retriever. Best Puppy in Group went to Roy and Rosemary Evans Labrador Retriever, Taleem Once In A While and Reserve Puppy and Best Yearling in Group went to Pam Smith’s Welsh Springer Spaniel, Tachwedd Tegan. Best Junior and Novice in Group was Alison Battrick’s Labrador Retriever, Jancerie Gigi. Best Veteran in Group went to Debbie Houghton and Enid Le Gresley’s American Cocker, Fielgar Tansation and Ro and Nigel Cox’s Irish Setters won Best Brace in Group.

In the Terrier Ring the Bests of Breed were Anna Pinto’s West Highland White Terrier, Newtonglen Suzie at McKalay; Angela Steel’s Bull Terrier, Bullyview Poetry in Motion; Christianne Creber and Kevin Cochrane’s Manchester Terrier, Amyandas Knight Fever; Jamie Laffoley and Steven Edwards’ Scottish Terrier, Woodlands Tyrconnel of Potterspride; Russell Marett’s Cesky Terrier Gayteckels Highflyer and Tom and Ella Stewart’s Border Terrier, Bramblebee Little Big Man, handled by their son Corey.

Here the CC went to the Bull Terrier which was also Best Junior, Novice and Yearling in Group with the Reserve CC going to the Cesky Terrier. Group 3 was the Manchester Terrier and the West Highland White Terrier was Group 4. Best Terrier Puppy was Jamie Laffoley and Steven Edwards’ Scottish Terrier, Yeloffal Rough Trade and the Reserve Puppy went to Tom and Ella Stewart’s Border Terrier, Bramblebee Little Big Man. Best Veteran in Group was Adrian Marett’s Cesky Terrier, Pajanticks Zidane.

Best of Breeds in the Toy Ring were Pauline Morgan and Louise Morgan’s Papillon, Blackpark Junior; Thelma Alsford’s Pomeranian, Thelbern Without A Doubt; Sue Curwood’s Japanese Chin, Gramacs Little Rascal; Fiona Officer’s Bichon Frise, Honeyvale Neige Emiette; Fiona Officer’s Chinese Crested, Shipstone I Got Rhythm; Peter and Angela Goguelin’s Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Ashtelle Corbeirre; Pat Dale and Pat Michel’s Pekingese, Ksarina Designers Star Vision and Peter Dowson and May Wood-Dowson’s Pug, Datiro Man Of The Moment Among Blynblay.

Winning the CC was the young Pomeranian which was also Best Puppy and Junior in Group and the Reserve CC was the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Group 3 was the Pekingese and Group 4 and Reserve Puppy in Group went to the Pug. Fiona Officer’s Chinese Crested, Shipstone I Got Rhythm was Best Yearling in Group and Best Novice was Bennett’s Thelbern Monsieur Le Blanc. Pauline Morgan and Louise Morgan’s Papillon, Blackpark Junior was Best Veteran and Thelma Alsford was successful with her Brace of Pomeranians.

In the Pastoral Group the Best of Breeds were Dianne Taylor and Freda Le Page’s Border Collie, Mobella Sweet Bracken; Collette Allo Allen’s Rough Collie, Brooklynson Diamond Rock with Ribans; Annabelle Le Page’s. Pembrokeshire Welsh Corgi, Langmar Bright Star Amongst Thelepees; Sarah Girard’s Bearded Collie, Moonhill Earl Grey; David and Carol Turner Alsatian, Chakonas Hawaiian Dream; Valery Johnson’s Shetland Sheepdog, Mohnesse Dream Lace at Valdug and Louise Skittrall’s Samoyed, Novaskaya Moonlite Spirit.

Winning the CC was the Alsatian with the Reserve CC going to the Samoyed. Group 3 and Best Puppy, Junior and Novice in Group was the Rough Collie and Group 4 and Best Veteran went to the Bearded Collie. Reserve Puppy in Group was Collette Allen’s Shetland Sheepdog, Ribans Cooper Penny and John and Simone Moulin’s Alsatian, Penwartha Christmas Story was Best Yearling in Group. Bobby and Barbara Lawrence were successful in winning Best Brace with their Alsatians.

The Working Group Best of Breeds were Alison Battrick’s Great Dane, Sarawen Black Queen of Jancerie; Sue Warn’s Siberian Husky, Lapatka Spirit Wolf; Collette Allen’s Dobermann, Ourouse Alfie Moon with Ribans; Caroline Facey’s Giant Schnauzer, Foxwood Hugo Boss; Margaret Bayes’s Boxer, Docrema Millionaire and Georgina Bennett’s Rottweiler, Hassavant Oralia.

The Siberian Husky won the CC whilst the Reserve CC went to the Great Dane. Group 3 was the Rottweiler and Group 4 was the Boxer. Best Puppy and Novice in Group was Margaret Bayes’s Boxer, Docrema Mystic Meg whilst Georgina Bennett’s Rottweiler, Newgen Roxanne was Best Yearling and Best Junior was Caroline Facey’s Giant Schnauzer, Foxwood Hugo Boss.

The following were Best of Breeds in the Utility Group, Brian and Sally Rousseau’s Bulldog, Bronorn Chardania at Dimkas; Carol Smither’s Toy Poodle, Montana Leading Lady at Meantmore; Joan Blampied’s Japanese Spitz; Wendardebs Polar Pearl; Francis Gilbert's Tibetan Spaniel, Mulltye Kara; Jean Thoume’s Miniature Poodle, Idadoun Black ‘n’ Dreamy; Sue Whitehead and Ann Sinclair’s Tibetan Terrier Jsy Ch Araki Fair Enough and Peter Dowson’s Shih Tzu, Penorson Liang.
Winning her 4th Jersey CC was the Tibetan Terrier with the Shih Tzu getting the Reserve CC.

Group 3 went to the Miniature Poodle and Group 4 was the Toy Poodle. Sarah Coopers Shih Tzu, Forepaws The Darkness was Best Puppy and Novice in Group whilst Louise and Pauline Morgan’s Tibetan Terrier, Araki Mandora was Best Junior. Francis Gilbert’s Tibetan Spaniel, Karolinca Cimba Yamatsan was Best Yearling. Jean Thoume’s Miniature Poodle, Jentiere Enchantress was Best Veteran and she was also successful with her Miniatures in the Brace.

The rings were then joined and Mrs Ann Macdonald stepped forward to judge Best in Show and gave it to the Afghan Hound Lux/Germ/Int Ch Jacosta Black in a Flash (IMP) belonging to Stuart and Pamela Mottershaw and handled by Marie Claire Hannigan with Reserve Best in Show going to Thelma Alsford’s Pomeranian Thelbern Without a Doubt which was also Best Puppy and Junior in Show. Thelma was also successful with her Pomeranians winning Best Brace in Show. Reserve Best Puppy in Show went to Collette Allo Allen’s Rough Collie, Brooklynson Diamond Rock with Ribans. Angela Steel’s Bull Terrier, Bullyview Poetry in Motion was Best Novice in Show and Lynn Ozanne’s English Springer Spaniel, Trimere True Style at Lyntonridge was Best Yearling In Show.
Best Veteran went to Pauline Morgan and Louise Morgan’s Papillon, Blackpark Junior at the tender age of 13 Years.

Mr Thomas Evans then stepped into the ring to judge some special classes, the Exhibitors Iceberg Trophy for never having won a Group went to White’s Lunarpet Calypso; Stuart and Pamela Mottershaw’s Whippet Barnesmore Let it Be for Elangeni won Stud Dog and Brood Bitch went to Ro and Nigel Cox’s Irish Setter, Tiroen Tourbillon. Ro and Nigel were also successful winning the Team Trophy with Tiroen Tourbillon and her children Tiroen Taylormade and Tiroen Tickled Pink.
Tiroen Taylormade went on to win Best Channel Island Bred Adult whilst Jamie Laffoley and Steven Edwards’ Scottish Terrier, Yeloffal Rough Trade won Best Channel Islands Bred Puppy.
Channel Island Bred Sporting was Lisa Goodall’s Wire Haired Dachshund, Gayteckles Seaexpectation at Renlott and Margaret Bayes’s Boxer, Docrema Millionaire was Best Channel Island Bred Non-Sporting. Special Vintage went to Sarah Girard’s Bearded Collie, Catsun William Tell.

During the lunch break there were handling classes judged by Russell Marett. Qualifying for Richmond from 6-11 years was 1st Stephanie Le Noury and 2nd Corey Stewart and in the 12-16 years it was 1st Lucinda Godwin and 2nd Ryan Woodhouse with Stephanie Le Noury being the overall winner.
