West Sussex shepherd Ray Edwards was rewarded in the best possible style for making the long trip to the North of England when becoming the 2006 English National Sheep Dog Trials champion.
Ray and his five-year-old dog Jim were ‘top dogs’ at the trials, held at Underley Hall Estate, near Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria.
Fed on Alpha, Jim was on top form throughout the trials and scored 199 out of a possible 220 points.
Ray, from Gumber Farm, Slindon, Arundel, completed an excellent trial on the final day of the event.
Run by the International Sheep Dog Society (ISDS), the event saw 150 of the top working sheep dogs in England take to the field with their handlers.
Ray has competed in trials since 1983 and bought Jim as a 10-month-old pup and says he is a very special and talented dog.
‘Jim knows how to work the sheep himself and is always thinking ahead. He is a lovely dog to work with and wants to work with you as a team,’ said Ray.
‘I run 20 dogs and they all look in fabulous condition which is thanks to Alpha and their excellent food.
‘Winning the National was a wonderful thing to achieve and a very special day after many years competing.’
The success for Alpha Feeds follows on from the win at the Scottish National Sheepdog Trials by Ian Brownlie and Bess, also fed by the North Nottinghamshire-based company.
