YOUR CANINE pals can now spruce up with a shampoo and blow-dry at a self-serve, coin-operated dog wash, launched in London on last weekend.
The do-it-yourself treatments are the new wave in dog grooming and cost around £10 for a complete wash and blow dry. Entrepreneur couple, Sue Carpenter and Anthony German, have imported the automated baths from Australia and chose Enfield above any other location in the UK to launch the scheme as they believe the demographics of the area match places in Australia where the stations are popular.
Mr German said: "There are plenty of parks and walking areas and if anything the business will do better here because of the greater population density. Dog owners can walk in and out and do what they have to do in about ten minutes. "
The couple hope MetroDogs will be the first of many licensed dog washes in the UK and plan to roll out the franchise to 30 more sites next spring.
Dog groomer Shaun Daines, owner of the Empire Poodle Salon in Enfield, thinks that the self washing machines sound like a good idea and said that he would consider having one in his salon.
He said: "It will suit some dogs but not others. It is a good thing the owners do the washing because the dog will be comforted by having them there.
