Pedigree Stakes Finals 2005 - Veteran Stakes

Veteran Stakes

It was a great honour to receive the invitation from Pedigree Masterfoods to judge the finals of the Veteran Stakes. As we have come to expect the event was superbly organised and I thank everyone involved for the superb hospitality. by Stuart J Mallard

The cream of our golden oldies were on show and I feel sure brought a lump to the throats of many of us. With ages ranging from seven and a half to eleven and a half, these senior citizens were all shown in excellent condition and full credit must go to their owners for presenting them in top form.

Senior citizens they may be but the contest was as keenly fought as when they were campaigning in their prime and to even select the first cut was by no means easy.

For further consideration I chose the Standard Poodle Ch Elledina Evilicious, Siberian Husky Ch/Am Ch Solocha’s Southern Legacy, Dobermann Ch Chancepixies Monopolist, Tibetan Terrier Ch Myrlea Detroit, English Springer Spaniel Sh Ch Bomaris Springtime with Hollybrook, Welsh Corgi (Pembroke) Ch Penliath Shooting Star, Saluki Ch Kasaque Hyperion of Saruk, Old English Sheepdog Ch/Int Ch Allmark Ralph Lauren, Dalmatian Ch Buffrey Arrabelle at Daedalus, Pomeranian Ch Moonrae Ebony Hot Shot and the Wire Fox Terrier Baglan Battle Hymn of Russmews.

A final run off and into the top spot went the Dalmatian Mr & Mrs D Petersen’s Ch Buffrey Arrabelle at Daedalus, active nine year old of excellent breed type, totally true on the move and shown in superb condition. Close on her heels came the exquisite eight year old black Pomeranian Miss C Smith’s Ch Moonrae Ebony Hot Shot, an excellent breed representative, his performance was rock solid and he sported a quality coat which was put down to the minute.

The eight and a half year old Welsh Corgi (Pembroke) Mrs C Blance’s Ch Penliath Shooting Star was third, she is beautifully balanced with a super head and expression, very sound and shown in sparkling condition.

Fourth was the Dobermann Mr D Andersons & Mrs J Frost’s Ch Chancepixies Monopolist, clean cut, conveys a lovely outline, strength with that touch of elegance, well muscled and right up on his toes. Finally the seven and a half year old English Springer Spaniel Mr & Mrs J Elliott’s Sh Ch Bomaris Springtime with Hollybrook, feminine, she is superb to go over, totally honest with action to match.
