VICAS and the Irish Kennel Club

VICAS (Veterinary Ireland Companion Animal Society) congratulates the Irish Kennel Club on their initiative in launching a micro-chip based registration scheme for pedigree dogs.

VICAS is committed to full cooperation with the Irish Kennel Club in the implementation of a register based on accurate microchip identification certified exclusively by veterinary surgeons.
The universal microchipping of all pedigree dogs in Ireland will allow improved regulation and monitoring of breeding animals as well as prompt retrieval of lost or stolen animals. The microchip identification scheme will also assist the control of hereditary diseases in the future.

The scheme will make a very positive contribution to the health, well-being and welfare of pedigree dogs in the future and will enhance the international reputation of pedigree dogs from Ireland.
